A Beginner's Checklist for the First Weekend
Book ski school early. Snowshoe's Ski and Snowboard School fills up fast on peak weekends. A half-day private or group lesson is worth every dollar. Do not try to learn from a friend.
Layer correctly. No cotton. Moisture-wicking base layer, fleece mid-layer, waterproof outer shell. Hands and face matter more than you think at this elevation.
Drink more water than you think you need. Nearly 5,000 feet of altitude is subtle but real. Dehydration hits faster here than at sea level.
Try Silver Creek. If the main mountain feels crowded, the free shuttle to Silver Creek takes ten minutes. It is flatter, wider, and much less busy. It also has the best night skiing on the mountain.
After the Lifts Close
The day does not end when the mountain does. Because you are staying slope-side, the Village is a short walk from your door.
Foxfire Grille does solid BBQ with a good atmosphere. The Junction is classic mountain fare in a vintage train-station space. Or skip both: grab a bottle of bourbon, head back to the balcony, and watch the groomers work the mountain under the lights. That view is hard to beat.

If you want to ski without logistics, yes. Off-mountain lodging means shuttles, parking, and gear hauling. Slope-side means none of that. The difference is noticeable from the first morning.
Is Snowshoe good for kids?
The Camp Wildcat program is one of the best children's ski schools in the region. Kids come off the mountain confident. Parents get a few hours on the harder terrain.
What if I do not want to ski every day?
